New Utah restaurant alert: Crack Shack
New fried chicken sandwich competitor enters the ring and what is a Southern California fried chicken sandwich anyway?
What?
Crack Shack was started in Southern California in 2015. They make Southern California Fried Chicken Sandwiches and fries.
The story starts in San Diego. Juniper and Ivy is a famous restaurant. The team behind that establishment saw an abandoned shack next to their restaurant and decided to start a fried chicken sandwich restaurant concept. It became super popular.
They have awesome sandwiches, a laid-back vibe and an unexpected level of hospitality.
Where?
They expanded in California, before starting to spread across the west. Crack Shack has 3 locations in Utah.
Why?
Really good chicken and really good fries with a fun environment. For example when you walk in the front door, there is a giant chicken statue.
The space is open and airy but luckily isn’t too echoey so it is not hard to have a conversation.
The menu focuses on fried chicken. There are some bowls and gluten-free options as well as a few desserts.
The sandwiches are big. You won’t be hungry after a sandwich and fries.
The staff is friendly and helpful. Our sandwiches were missing pickles (you need a little acid kick in a fried chicken sandwich) and when we asked about that they brought us pickles and a cookie to say sorry.
The cookie felt like eating butter salt and chocolate in the best way possible. Tasty.
Would highly recommend you check out Crack Shack.
Competitors?
The fried chicken sandwich game is heating up in Utah. There are a lot of restaurants that serve a good sandwich, along with several that only serve chicken sandwiches. Some of my favorites are:
1. Pretty Bird in SLC.
Along with a host of others.
What do you think? What is the best friend chicken sandwich in Utah?
