You may have seen the billboards making fun of other cookie companies in Utah, promoting a company called the Cookie Plug.
I can’t say no to a good cookie, so we decided to try it out and write about it.
What does the Cookie Plug sell:
Large gourmet cookies, backed in molds so they are perfectly round.
The cookies are called ‘Phatties’ and are large. 4 inches across, 1½ inches thick. This would be more unusual but other cookie companies in Utah like Chip and Crumbl had larger than normal cookies earlier. They are comparable in side.
They also have keto cookies which is unusual. There are 4 keto flavors, which pack anywhere from 8.1 to 12.8 grams of protein and are all under five grams of carbs.
Company History:
Cookie Plug got its start in 2019 when founder Erik Martinez, then in the cake supply business, decided he wanted a better cookie.
Founded in 2019 and franchising since 2022, it has 98 franchise units in development and has a goal of signing 300 franchises this year.
Their aesthetic and branding are inspired by graffiti and street art and are definitely edgy by Utah standards.
They have to make sure everyone knows that while some of their brand and flavor names are inspired by cannabis, they are just normal cookies.
“Our products are not CBD or cannabis-related,” a representative for the company said in an email. - source
Where:
Lots of stores in California. This is the first Cookie Plug outside of California and Oregon, but there are lots of stores in development currently (the blue cookies in the image)
So how are the actual cookies?
We got 5 different flavors. The ones we tried (and they change frequently) were
Strawberry Shortcake
White Chocolate Macadamia,
Brownie
Smores
Original
Strawberry tasted like strawberry. Right in between real strawberry and fake strawberry. Fun flavor. 8/10
White Chocolate Macadamia was a bit dry. Didn’t do it for me. 5/10
Brownie was like a cookie on the edges, brownie in the middle. Decent, enjoyed it. 8/10
Smores was fun toppings, but the dough wasn’t as good as some of the other graham cracker type doughs I have had. 7/10
The original had TONS of chocolate chips in it. It felt like it was mostly chocolate chips held together with a grainy batter. Not bad but not great. 7/10
Overall rating: 7/10
Not dying to go back, but not bad. If someone brought these to a party I would want to try all the flavors I hadn’t.
Better than Crumbl, not as good as Chip.
If you are in the area, check them out, but not worth driving a long distance for.
